Tree Care Tips for Live Christmas Trees

Caring for your Fresh Cut Christmas tree

How to look after your Farm Fresh Cut Christmas Tree

  • Cut 2cm off the stump of your tree before you place it into a stand with water. This simple step will enable your Christmas tree to absorb water and maintain its freshness.
  • Place the Christmas tree in a Christmas Tree Stand that can hold at least 4 liters of water as well as your tree. Water the new tree until water uptake stops. Maintain the water level in the tree stand daily, Christmas trees can drink over 2L of water per day.
  • If you wont be putting  your tree up immediately, store it in a cool place out of the wind and sun in a bucket of water.
  • Check the water level daily. Our Christmas Tree Preservative will also help to promote water absorption and needle retention. If the water level drops below the trunk, it may sap over and the tree will be unable to absorb water without a fresh cut.
  • Place the tree away from sunlit windows and other heat sources as they will dry out your tree prematurely.
  • If properly cared for (using these steps) your real Christmas tree should last up to 4 weeks before drying out.

We stock a full range of Tree Nest Christmas Tree Stands and tree preservative available for purchase directly from our farm.

  • If potted up, use a good quality potting mix, provide good drainage and use a balanced slow release fertiliser.
  • Christmas trees in pots require more frequent watering however ensure the pot has good drainage and don't over water. Keep the soil moist be not soaking.
  • Your Christmas Tree prefers a Full Sun position for optimum growth.
  • If bringing your Christmas Tree inside, beware that reintroduction outside can result in stress. A gradual transition can reduce the risk of shock.
  • If planting your Christmas tree in the ground, choose a full sun location that is well drained.
  • Frequent watering and trimming throughout the growing season will be required to maintain the Christmas tree shape.
  • The Christmas Tree can grow into a large tree if not maintained.

If properly cared for your Real Christmas tree will look great year after year.!
